on my 81 revcon, the front parking light lenses are very faded and one has been cracked for the past 15 yrs at least. also the rear reflectors on the back corners are faded badly. question is are the front parking lights unobtanium? ($$$) i'm all for mods, anyone know of some lenses that can be made to fit into place without huge anounts of bodywork? throwing this out there in case i'm not the first to have faded front lenses. scott |

I have a '89 coach, and my front parking lights are actually a 2-fer. There's an outer orange shield that's custom made, and a inner light assembly that's like one off a construction truck with it's own colored lens & all. Dave would probably know parts availability or interchange for that year coach..... |

I've looked at those plastic lenses and have not been able to find a viable replacement. The center lens is a common part, but the orange plastic around the lens is some weird custom thing. I work for a company that makes machines to assemble plastic. Since we are big in the automotive industry, i see head and tail light assemblies on a regular basis. I have yet to see anything that could be reasonably made to work. Mine are not broke, but are very faded. The rears have several solutions, but the front, so far it seems we are stuck. |

Dave, just thinking outside the box here. Is the amber lens something that could be AutoCAD'ed and sent out for a small quantity production? With Marty getting long in the tooth there may be more then a few custom parts like this that need to be outsourced and sold. I'm not sure who ended up with the intellectual property rights after the final bankruptcy, but it may be worth our while to find out. |

Anyone for 3D printing? One could probably have the lenses 3D printed at a fairly reasonable cost. I would not worry about the intellectual property, even if it really belonged to someone. The design would never be used again anyway, as it is not in style with any modern vehicle. The demand is not high enough for replacements, that it would be to anyone's value to manufacture them for a profit. The approach I would take is to only measure the outside dimensions of the mounting surfaces, and then design my own lenses. Have it done in semi-clear, with the intent on using a LED panel behind the lenses. No one really wants to use incandescent bulbs anymore anyway. Find an existing LED turn signal light that can be gutted and used, and then design the lenses around the LED guts. |

Regarding those amber / orange lenses: I pulled mine off last year to look them over (mercifully not cracked). I found the inside of the lens to be shiny and bright just like you would expect. The outside was very dull and almost opaque. A little elbow grease and some polishing compound brought back some of the shine, but I suspect using one of the headlight restoration kits that have popped up all over would probably make them shine like new. They look to be ordinary plexiglass, simply heat formed over a plug and then trimmed around the perimeter, so replication shouldn't be too tough. I'm not sure I have the energy to make replacements but I'll be somebody out there does. |
