It is well established that the rear drums are not balanced, which is why Revcon specified the rear must be spin balanced on the vehicle. You might still be able to use Centramatics or Balance Masters on the rear. Just re-drill the new bolt pattern. Otherwise you can put a bag of ceramic beads in the tires. That is what I have on my non-Revcon motorhome. |

@ TTTPHD Thank you! I don´t know how the bearings are lubricated. I must identify the correct part number of the rear wheel bearings. My mechanic is going to take them off and let´s see. @ Dave I can´t use Centramatics or Balance Masters, because my rim size doesn´t fit. Ceramic beads are no option - my Revcon has got tubes in the tires. There are no humps on the rims. |

Hello and welcome back! My mechanic has removed the Outer and Inner Hub Bearings on Monday. So I took the old ring binder from the previous owner and looked into it. Map-2-Inner-Hub-Bearing.jpg [ 214.16 KiB | Viewed 1827 times ] Old pages from "The Revconeer". And finally on Ebay - three bearings: Package-Inner-Hub-Bearing.jpg [ 88.17 KiB | Viewed 1827 times ] Didn´t work so well with the Outer Hub Bearings, the number was unknown. But one single offer with that specific number popped up on Ebay again: Package-Outer-Hub-Bearing.jpg [ 83.32 KiB | Viewed 1827 times ] I have bought both, delivery time is about 3 to 4 weeks. Not enough for all four wheels, but it´s a good start. Another possible source could be this one: https://pacifictrailers.com/products/tr ... s-1-750-id |

The wheel bearings, offered here in Austria (!) and sent to the Revcon in Saxony within 24 hours (!), fit. https://www.123kugellager.at/lagern-387 ... gJsOfD_BwE https://www.123kugellager.at/lagern-25877-25820-TIMKEN Found them via Google in about one minute - first try! It is amazing: The Timken wheel bearings are still offered new and they are still in stock. So, after 45 years the company is still producing them. Wow! Seems to be a good and reliable design. wheel bearings changed Revcon F..jpg [ 57.32 KiB | Viewed 1783 times ] Had to replace the 9.50R16.5LT 121/117R Firestone Transforce HT tire too. It was damaged because of the broken wheel bearing. Very expensive here in Europe. But I´m glad that I have got one. The former owner parked the Revcon from 2008 to 2018 because there were no matching tires available for it in this time. He finally changed all 6 of them in 2018. https://www.oldtimerreifen24.de/DIVERSE ... nnung.html |

You´re welcome. Today's attempt to balance the wheels on the Revcon, like described in the original manual, was a failure. Problem 1: The balancing machine couldn' t turn the front wheels while the transmission was in Position "N". More power is needed to make them spin. If you do it by hand you can feel the strong resistance. A member of the GMC Motorhome-Forum wrote: If you have both front wheels off the ground, you can leave the transmission in Park. Spinning one wheel will make the other wheel spin in the opposite direction. Its easy to spin the front wheels on a GMC like this. But having both front wheels spinning may upset the balancer readings." Problem 2: The deviation on the rear wheels is so high, that it can' t be fixed with balancing weights. a) Rear wheel of the tandem, passenger side: New inner and outer wheel bearings, new tire, balanced on the rim, which was checked for damages. There are none. Wheel balancing 2023 1 R. Forum.jpg [ 74.17 KiB | Viewed 1739 times ] 531 grams equal 1.17 pounds. b) Same wheel position on the other side: Wheel balancing 2023 2 R. Forum.jpg [ 99.09 KiB | Viewed 1739 times ] Now it's getting psychological... The only part what is left now is the brake drum. I have contacted the pre-owner of my Revcon. He told me that the brake drums have never been changed. He pulled a trailer behind the Revcon with a Jeep on it and he went e.g. on a trip to Greece where he had to apply the brakes over and over again while he was driving down winding roads in order to get to the ferry at the coast on time. So damaged brake drums might be a reason for the heavy imbalance. If not, I don´t know what to do next. The drums are available in Germany, one is already in the storage facility of my mechanic. I got it from the pre-owner last year, together with some other remaining spare parts. He told me that they also fit for Dodge fullsize pickups. The drums should be factory balanced. I wanted to check this out, but we didn´t find the drum. Searching for it resulted in a burnt lunch which didn´t improve the mood of my mechanic, so I thought for myself it would be better to try it again on an other day... |

Matt Colie (GMC Motorhome-Forum) wrote: "I have some interesting news and I am not sure it is good or bad. Dodge truck brake drums used to come from a company that has since dissolved, but the drums were shippted balanced. The unfortunate part of this news is that the company balanced them by wedging a piece of iron between the cast fins of the drum. This was a fine idea until we look forward to the corrosion that is sure to happen. They became notorious for throwing the balancing weights. That is what I remember. What I do not remember is what was best done to recover from the situation. When you come up with a plan, please be sure to tell us. If it works - Great. If it doesn't we still like to know so we know what has been tried." |
